Rooster Relocation Run v2.0

I was still asleep at 8:30 when this horrible sound filled my ears.

So horrible was this sound, I was convinced that NewtCat laid beneath my window dying from some horrible wound.

As quickly as I could, I fell out of bed and scrambled for clothes. As I did, the death-cry rang out again.

I stopped.

The sound was NOT coming from beneath my window, but from out in the yard.

I pulled back the curtain, and there was Norway in all HIS glory. Head to the sky, face tilted back, trying desperately to belt out a crow.

Considering the animal’s built lately, and the fact that I was trying to ignore the recent spur growth on Norway’s legs, I’m not entirely surprised that Norway is, in fact, a he.

I’m not terribly thrilled with the fact that I had to pack up ANOTHER rooster and take him back to the feed store, but I’m glad the owner will find him a home.

  1. I have maybe 15 roosters at any given time. They fight and kill each other, and they wake me up every morning about 5 a.m. with a cacophony of hideous crowing that goes on for about 15 minutes, then stops, and starts again at dawn when I’m already up. But, you can eat them if you have to so I keep them. Also, my daughter caught me killing them when she was about 12 and her anger scarred her old father for life.

I think I remember you mentioning that incident with your daughter. :(

By law, I can’t keep roosters where I live. I would have eaten him, but since I raised these critters from 2 day old chicks as egg layers… I couldn’t bring myself to do it without having had the “I’m going to eat this creature” mindset from the get-go.

  2. I would only eat mine in dire necessity. Same problem.
